A few things I’ve found on the net and I’ve enjoyed.
-
First, 6,000 years of gay history! With puppets!
- Then, a not recent, but very interesting article about early comics strips and their representations of gay and lesbian stereotypes.
- An unusual take on Junji Ito’s Uzumaki, one of my favorites manga. Noah Berlatsky interprets key scenes from a gender/homophobia viewpoint that I must admit I’d completely missed.
- Dirk Deppey weighs on Boys’ Love manga, with a detailed essay that’s worth reading in its entirety.
I’ve also added a few links recently:
- Sea of Something, by Annie Hall. From the UK, a comic about a group of people, men, women, lesbian, gay & straight.
- Drop it!, by Ricardo Checa. The English translation of a humorous strip in Spanish, where real life and fiction intersect.
- Oliver Frey, a mainstream illustrator who’s had a prolific output in gay erotic art and illustration in the 70s and 80s, has finally launched a site dedicated to that part of his career. And German publisher Bruno Gmünder will soon publish a book of some of his strips. More about that book when it’s out.
- Speaking of gay erotic artists, I’ve found a new one, nicknamed Nickie.
