Review: Doubt is reassuring

Artist(s): Abi Higgs.

Doubt is reassuring is an interesting mini-comic written and drawn by Abi Higgs1, where the author talks about questioning her sexual identity in a matter-of-fact way.

I’ve long thought that it was easier to identify as gay (or straight) than to feel uncomfortable “choosing” one side, and Abi Higgs’s musings seem to confirm that point of view. What’s more, she doesn’t identify as bisexual, either. She simply doesn’t want to identify, and rejects labels. We don’t see enough people like her telling their stories, especially in such a raw, unfiltered way.
Her rather minimal art makes you feel like you have a direct access to her emotions, while her writing, which is more detailed and precise than her art style, makes you react to her opinions, starting an imaginary conversation between you and the author’s avatar.
In short, Doubt is reassuring lives up to its title, by showing than questioning one’s identity can be both uneasy and heartening.
