As established in the by now well, uh, established tradition of So Super Duper (can you establish a tradition with only ten issues under your belt? Stan Lee and co. did it back in the 60s, so I don’t see why Brian Andersen couldn’t do it for our times), writer Brian Andersen and artist Celina Hernandez once more pull the rug from under the feet of our heroes: first by having Psyche’s best girl friend acquire superpowers, which makes her bolder in her interest in Psyche, and then by telling readers the truth about the very long and very mysterious disappearance and reappearance of Captain Idol’s former girlfriend. And it’s not pretty at all.
Celina Hernandez makes a wonderful job of illustrating the twists and turns from the queer mind of Brian Andersen. I must say I’ve really warmed up to her art. I now think it’s charming and full of feelings, which is perfect for the kind of story written by Andersen.
Of course, the big reveal in this issue is whom the teaser below is really about:
Yes, someone proposes to Psyche, and that certainly doesn’t solve any problem, on the contrary: two suitors is one too many for Psyche, especially when one is a woman who still thinks Psyche is straight, and the other is an obviously conflicted guy (there, I’ve told you it’s a guy…). All is set up for a finale (yes, #12 will be the last issue) that will be gayer than anything dreamt of in your philosophy, or mine.
You can buy this comic from the Indy Planet site or Prism Comics, and the author’s site is here (with previews of the issues).
