So, in the previous issue, our hero finally kissed his paramour, and then tragedy struck (this is a superhero comic, after all). But fear not, gentle reader, for writer Brian Andersen expertly plays with his audience’s feelings and gives Psyche another chance to bemoan his eventful life as this tenth issue mainly takes place in a hospital. The sometimes pint-sized empath barely has time to realize what’s happened to him when the bad guys come back to renew their attack…
Artist Celia Hernandez obviously has fun working on this action-packed soap which is getting to be as complicated as an X-Men comic. I mean, consider the facts: Psyche began the series as a closeted, low-level empath, only to find himself 200 pages later embroiled in an emotional imbroglio that involves his sweet boy Comet (now badly hurt) as well as the intriguing Captain Idol, seemingly straight but who seems to find more and more opportunities to lock lips with Psyche, who’s developing stronger powers as well as being able to freely switch between human and fairy sizes (see previous issues for what that’s about). And all that in ten comics! Who needs forty years of Marvel continuity? I don’t know where Andersen and Hernandez are taking us, but I certainly enjoy the ride.
You can buy this comic from the Indy Planet site or Prism Comics, and the author’s site is here (with previews of the issues).
I love Celia’s artwork she’s really good, but I do miss Brian’s art on this book. All in all I have been entertained throughout.
