Cavalcade of Boys #6
Author(s):
Tim Fish.
Here's the end of
the mostly-by-Tim-Fish run of reviews. Not that I complain, mind you. The
sixth issue of The Cavalcade of
Boys is as good as the previous ones, and this time, we learn a bit
more about the relationships between three teenage guys who share a house - we
met them in issue #3. Shown until now as being rather innocent and romantic,
they now get into one of those triangles which seem to have been invented by gay
people, where their search for love and their appreciation of sex for sex's sake
seem mutually compatible. In another part of this issue, we finally get to
know what happened between Tighe (from issue #1, and even before) and
his previous boyfriend Mitch, the "perfect ex". It's a rather
on-target description of how, sometimes, it doesn't take anything really serious
for love to take a wrong turn. And then, there is the excellent spare sprinkling
of deliciously cheesy dialogue like "Sometimes, love is not
enough". Classic Tim Fish, if that means anything.

YBIL again
A promise is a promise, so here are the reviews of the last two Young Bottoms in Love collections. Of special interest is the third one, a delicious journey through the classic romance stories which have completely disappeared from today comics.

Young Bottoms in Love: Spotlight on Brett Hopkins
Here's the first collection of the online gay comics anthology Young Bottoms in Love. Brett Hopkins was the co-editor of the anthology for some time, although he's now left to work on a personal project. He's a realistic artist with lots of flair, and I'm glad this collection exists. Two other collections from YBIL have been published, I'll review them in the next few days.

Just a few words, to tell you I've added another functionality to the site: when you're on a review page, you can now click on any author's name to see all the reviews of his/her work. Neat, isn't it?

Wanky Comics #3
Author(s):
BiL Sherman.
Here's the third issue of the all-hairy dreams of BiL Sherman. Behind a wickedly funny cover, you'll find a new chapter of Monster War, another darkly amusing adventure of Wood Weapon, where the eponymous character falls into the paws of a seemingly toy lion who makes jealous boyfriends look like a walk in the park, and various one-pagers, ranging from love in the times of gore to a kind of porn gospel which would hopefully make any fundamentalist Christian choke up and die. That was my wishful thinking of the day. But I digress.
Apart from Monster War, which is unremittingly dark and disturbing, most of BiL Sherman's stories are still full of whimsy, a whimsy which shine through the sex and violence of the stories. Fairytales for (gay) grown-ups, I'd call it.
